What is Agrinno?
Innovative approach
The AGRINNO project aims to introduce a new model of agricultural entrepreneurship focused on improving productivity and stimulating self-employment. The plan is to apply innovative methods in plastic-covered greenhouses in order to facilitate vegetable farming. Well-organized vegetable farming in a protected environment and in the open field can yield two to three harvests off the same surface in one year of the following vegetable crops: tomatoes, peppers, beetroots, leaf beet, peas, green onions, lettuce, radishes, carrots, parsley, kohlrabi, spinach.
Technology
The project includes purchase of four innovative double film plastic-covered greenhouses measuring 8x30m. External and internal greenhouse meters are outfitted with temperature and relative humidity sensors. In addition to these parameters, the external meter can also determine wind direction and speed, as well as the quantity of precipitation. The irrigation system of the installed plastic-covered greenhouse consists of micro-sprinklers, drip tapes and precision fertilizer injectors. Vegetable crops can be watered using a remote control system (via a computer or mobile phone).
Self-employment
The fact that the rural population has top-quality land in their household gardens makes it possible to introduce a new agricultural business model aimed at boosting productivity and creating self-employment. Education of the unemployed creates opportunities for the most cost-effective utilization of land and workforce in vegetable farming for own consumption and taking of excess products to market, improving product quality and increasing household income. The long-term goal of the project is to pass on and promote the results in practice and connect the people with farmers’ markets, shops in order to establish cooperation in the region, reduce transport costs and achieve competitive prices.
